Review : ‘Woman in Trouble’

In this November upcoming indie Women in Trouble, we have Carla Gugino (Watchmen) playing a porn star, and Adrienne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage) playing call girls. Also among the cast are Connie Britton (also from FNL), Marley Shelton, Elizabeth Berkley, and Sarah Clarke. And as for the men, we’ve got Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Brolin, and Simon Baker. Nothing to sneeze at.

The film is written and directed by Sebastian Guiterrez, who’s written horror-movies-of-the-week like Gothika and The Eye. He’s also dating Carla Gugino, and what do you know? His next film after Women in Trouble is called Elektra Luxx, and will also star Gugino as the titular porn star — and the same character she’s playing in Women. Not often do you hear about a sequel/spin-off being filmed before the original movie even comes out.

Both movies sound like the kind of gambit that could come off as really silly unless Guiterrez knows what he’s doing, but Film School Rejects saw Women in Trouble at SXSW and really dug it, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
